About Me

My Background

Lisa Nelson

Hi! I’m Lisa Nelson. I have been playing the piano since I was 4 years old. I studied music at the University of Texas at Arlington. I enjoy mentoring students of all ages. Additionally, I homeschooled for 16 years and have experience with different styles of teaching and learning.

My Mission

By making piano studies rewarding and enjoyable, I hope to empower my students to find achievement and inspiration in music, building a love of music that will last a lifetime.

My Instruments

Student Piano

Lessons will begin on my Baldwin Spinet piano. This is my first piano, I have played since I was 4 years old. It is a prize to still own this piano.

My Instrument After years of waiting, I finally have my baby grand, a Chickering mahogany wood piano manufactured in the 1950s. It is an amazing addition to my studio.

Testimonials

I contacted Mrs. Nelson for piano lessons for my two sons as soon as she opened her studio three years ago. We have loved our experience! Despite their young ages (5 and 3 when they began), my boys have continued their piano lessons and have advanced in ways I never thought possible! More than the repertoire they are playing, I am always impressed at Mrs. Nelson’s ability to engage them during lessons and motivate them to work on their pieces and learn new things. They especially love the recitals and the practice challenges, where they can win a trophy for their practice goals. I find them practicing on their own and trying new things, We look forward to many more great years and hopefully lifelong music making!

Aiden started piano lessons with Lisa this year. Aiden was told he could be borderline ADHD. After researching, we realized music could help. His attention and confidence have improved so much this year, since he started playing. Aiden enjoys the challenges and games Lisa plays with him during lessons. We are grateful to have Lisa as a part of Aiden’s musical journey!

-Lauren

Our 11-year-old son has been taking lessons for 3 years now and we wouldn’t go with any other teacher. She is patient, fun and encouraging. His friend wanted to take lessons from her because Lisa taught my son well and she wanted to play like him and learn “from the best”. Now our 9-year-old son is taking lessons and Lisa is able to work with him in his own way. They are brothers but very different, and Lisa has helped the 9-year-old grow in his musical capabilities. Lisa does her best to make piano practice fun and not a chore for them. Once my oldest son mastered the basics she has let him pick the direction of what kind of music he learns to play, even movie scores.

My daughter has been taking lessons with Lisa Nelson since she was 4! She is such a patient and enthusiastic teacher, which helps my daughter WANT to learn. A true testament to the teacher is to see how well all the students do at the recitals! I also have to mention the fact that she works well with families and is very flexible. I can’t recommend Lisa enough to anyone looking to learn piano.

-Bailey

Lisa has been such a wonderful teacher for my two daughters. We’ve been with her for a year and a half and I can’t believe the amount of growth I’ve seen in them both. She is so great at knowing what they are capable of and encouraging them to grow. She always seeks to make lessons and practice enjoyable and worth their while. I especially love that she holds recitals twice a year because it gives them something to work hard towards and look forward to. She is such a pleasure to work with. I’m so glad that we found this incredible teacher!

-Megan

Lisa is a very dedicated and supportive piano instructor. I’ve attended many recitals and have seen the young students she has helped develop their talents. The progress is amazing to witness with time and practice. Lisa is hands on and desires only the best for her students and parents. Nelson Piano and Music is definitely the piano go to for lessons.

-Candace

I always enjoy attending Nelson Piano and Music recitals. The students taught by Lisa Nelson are so confident in marching up to the grand piano, placing their music on the piano (although some pieces are memorized), sitting down and playing. Then they come back down off the stage and bow to the audience which is clapping for the student’s great performance. Lisa has two recitals a year. It is fun to see how the students have developed their talents. She loves sharing her talent with them.

-Jeannene

I was pleased to have attended the last recital performance showcasing a variety of talents and piano skills. It was surprising to see the range and levels of difficulty of the pieces selected by some of the students of younger ages. Irregardless of the student’s level of piano skills in the making, or the chosen music, it was clear to see the excitement, happiness, and joy of playing the piano in each of the student’s faces, especially as they took their bows in front of the crowded room of family and friends at the conclusion of their performance. Because Ms. Nelson believes in allowing each student to select his or her own performance piece(s) and encourages them to excel, she clearly expects them to take the responsibility to move ahead at their own pace. They have the freedom to choose and work hard and earn the rewards…she does make it fun and challenging, so the potential is limitless to becoming an outstanding musician. I highly recommend Nelson Piano and Music.
